APS Pro Katana polishing pads are so-called dual layer pads and are made up of two different layers of foam. The first foam layer, the so-called pressure absorber layer, is located directly behind the stable Velcro layer mount. The Pressure Absorber Layer consists of a super soft and extra flexible foam layer and has the task of compensating for the unevenness of the pad support and incorrect positioning of the machine when polishing . This property allows the underlying foam layer (cutting layer) the greatest possible flexibility and freedom of movement , especially on uneven, kinked and sloping surfaces.

With free-rotating dual-action eccentric polishing machines, the rotational movement of the backing plate or pad is created by the kinetic energy from the lifting movement. The rotational movement is an important factor in cutting efficiency and is always desirable as an additional movement. The problem with this is that the rotary movement can very easily be stopped during the polishing process by uneven surfaces or incorrect positioning of the machine. One speaks of the so-called canting. The pressure absorber layer intervenes exactly at this point and reliably compensates for the temporary canting . As a result, the deceleration of the rotational movement is effectively prevented and the pad works with the constant polishing performance.

A special composition of the 2 types of foam was chosen for the cutting layer. This combination not only covers the most commonly required removal rate levels, but also enables almost infinite adjustment to the respective requirement. The green Regular Cut Pad, whose cutting layer is made of what is currently the most modern, thermostable type of foam , receives particular attention . The thermostable foams yield much less in heat and humidity and retain a higher percentage of their original compression set over time. This property enables a higher contact pressure for more effective removal rates.

APS Pro Katana Dual Layer polishing machine pads have a conical foam cut and prevent damage to the polishing pad by the backing pad due to excessive pressure or an inclined position. At the same time , the side sloping downwards enables easier access to problem areas and depressions as well as complete visual control in the edge area .
